Corvallis High School welcomes all students and offers a balanced and challenging educational program. Our goal is for our graduates to possess the knowledge and skills needed to live productive and satisfying lives. Our excellent staff is passionate about helping students reach their academic goals and our administrative team is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students, families, and staff.

Who We Are

Corvallis High School has a diverse student population. Programs in our school include an inclusive learning environment for emerging multi-lingual students and for students with a wide range of learning abilities. Nearly 1 in 5 CHS students are identified as Talented and Gifted, 3% are English Language Learners and almost 1/4th of our students participate in the Free & Reduced Meal Program.

Parents and other volunteers play an important role in contributing to student success at Corvallis High. Under professional direction, Beyond CHS, the school’s college and career center, is staffed largely by volunteers. Parents and community partners often participate in classrooms and programs to enrich our students’ learning experiences. The Spartan athletics program has a long-standing tradition of excellence and is strongly supported by community volunteers.

Matt Boring, Principal

Mr. Boring has been the CHS principal since 2011. Before coming to Corvallis, he was the assistant principal of Sherwood High School for six years. He has 16 years of experience teaching English at the high school level and also worked as the administrator of Sherwood’s alternative education program. In addition, he’s been a high school football, basketball, and baseball coach. Earlier in his career, he taught in Salem at McNary High School, West Salem High School, and South Salem High School, as well as at schools in New Haven and New Milford, Connecticut. Mr. Boring earned his bachelor’s degree in English at Willamette University and a master’s degree in English and education from Western Oregon University.

Germaine Joseph-Hays, Assistant Principal

Germaine Joseph-Hays was hired as assistant principal in 2021. Prior to this position, she taught science at CHS and has taught in the Corvallis School District since 2017. She started her educational career at the International School in St. Lucia and has 11 years of experience as an educator, including teaching middle and high school science in Carrizozo, a small, rural town in South-central New Mexico, and teaching Biology and Advanced Placement Biology at Central High School in Independence, Oregon. Germaine holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. Germaine is currently part of the District Equity Leadership Team Advisory and serves as a mentor/coach of the CHS Students Advocating for Equity (SAFE) student group.

Salvador Muñoz, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

Mr. Muñoz was hired as assistant principal/athletic director at CHS in 2019. He came from Salem-Keizer Public Schools, where he worked as a Spanish teacher at the high school and middle school levels since 2007 and as a high school behavior specialist since 2017. He also is currently an assistant coach for the Willamette University Men’s Soccer team and has coached at the high school level including soccer, track, golf, and basketball. He has extensive experience in behavior support strategies to ensure all students have the tools they need to be successful. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Education and a Master of Education with an ESOL focus (English for Speakers of Other Languages) from Oregon State University.

Emmet Whittaker, Assistant Principal

Mr. Whittaker was hired as assistant principal in 2021. He has been a science and AVID teacher at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Oregon, since 2013. He began teaching after a 15-year career as a senior engineer and program manager with Hewlett-Packard in the U.S. and Ireland. Mr. Whittaker holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Paisley, in Scotland, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Western Oregon University.
