In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., there will be no school on Monday, January 20th.

No school on January 29, 30 and 31  This is the end of the semester for high school students, and professional development and grading days for teaching staff.

Sources of Strength is a new class that will be offered next semester by Mr. Reed.  We’re looking for students who are willing to work in teams, be creative, have fun,  and help promote messages of community and strength on our campus.  All students are welcome.  See your counselor for more information.

Parents and guardians: please call the Attendance line, 541.757.5888, for all matters pertaining to student absences: sick days, late arrivals, early departures, middle of the day appointments, etc.   The attendance line is a busy one, so you may get a recording.  In that case, please leave a detailed message.  Mrs. Begin listens to messages every few minutes throughout the day.

The Tutoring Center is open from 7:30 am to 4 pm, Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30 am to 3:05 pm on Fridays.  Come to room 224 for help with any subject, or to make up tests.  Get help with college essays, science lab reports, and more! Weekend online editing available.  See Mrs. Weiler in 224 for all your tutoring needs!

Some important dates:

January 14 (3 pm) – Deadline to register for the January 16 ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test at CVHS.  Email Abigail.Mosqueda@corvallis.k12.or.us by 3pm.

January 16 ASVAB test at CVHS, 8 am

January 16 ASE (Apprenticeship in Science and Engineering) presentation in Computer Lab 121 during lunch, 11:15-11:45 am.  For 9th through 11th graders interested in careers as scientists, doctors, engineers or technologists.   ASE matches scientists, engineers and technology innovators with students for 8 week internships over the summer. ASE is a great way to earn school credit and a $1,000 stipend!

January 17Wellesley College visit to Beyond CHS at 1:15.  Please sign up in advance at Beyond CHS.

January 17 Late registration deadline (with fee) for the February 8 ACT at CHS.  Register online at ACT.org

January 17 – Assistance League Winter SAT Review Class registration forms are due.  Pick up a registration form in Beyond CHS or download one, and mail the form and payment to the Assistance League ASAP.

Extracurricular

Unified Basketball Game, January 15, large gym, 2:30 pm.  A game for students with and without disabilities.

All State Band/Choir, January 17, 18, 19, Eugene, 8am-3pm.  Twenty CHS Band and Choir students are going to participate in the All-State Honor Choir, Band, and Orchestra. These students were selected as the top performers in the state!

CHS Statewide Chess Tournament, January 18, CHS Library, 8am-4pm

Please respect the No Idling Zone and Fire Lane signs posted around the school.  If you wait for your student in your car, please park in a designated parking spot so that the Fire Lanes are clear, and please turn your car off.  It makes the air just a bit cleaner for all.  And not using gas saves you money!
