CHS uses a Google Group distribution list to disseminate CHS-related communications. Our Google Group is called CHS-Parents.
To Subscribe: Send an email to email@example.com from the email address you wish to receive the communications. Your will receive an email asking you to confirm that you wish to be added to the group (See below). Please remember to add the group to your approved mailer lists. This will prevent group messages from being put in your junk email.
If the hyperlink doesn’t work for you, copy and paste the address into the “TO” field of your email browser.
Do members have to have a Google account to join the group?
No. In fact, you don’t have to sign up at all. You can subscribe or unsubscribe by e-mail at any time without having to go to the group page and login with an account. If you do want to create an account (so you can manage the way you receive e-mails from the group), it does not have to be Google account. You can setup an account that uses any e-mail domain, such as Yahoo, Comcast or Hotmail.
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org from the email address in which you receive the communications. You will receive a confirmation email from the system that you have been removed.
Group Archives: Every communication that is distributed on CHS-Parents Google Group is archived and can be accessed by visiting: http://groups.google.com/a/listserv.csd509j.net/group/chs-parents/.
Please note: you must sign into Google or create an account to visit the list archives.
How do I change my email address associated with the distribution list? Follow the above instructions for adding and removing yourself. You will need to still have access to both of your emails for this to work. You will send an UNSUBSCRIBE (see above) email from the email you wish to stop the correspondence. Then open the email you wish to use, and send a SUBSCRIBE (see above) email from that account.
What if I no longer have access to an old email address associated with this list? Send an email to email@example.com explaining that you need assistance removing an old email address. Provide the old email address in the body of the email.
When I reply to an email that I receive from chs-parents, what happens? Your email will automatically enter “ CHS-PARENTS+Owners@listserve.csd509J.net” into the “TO” field and you will be sending an email to the Owner of the CHS-Parent Google group, which is a parent volunteer (a.k.a. CHS Parent Moderator). You may not be responding to the sender of the information. All emails should have who to contact in the body of the email. If Annie Neves (Anne.Neves@corvallis.k12.or.us) or Nancy Shaffer (Nancy.firstname.lastname@example.org) are the authors of an email and you have a question, forward the email and questions to them directly.

Guidelines for Message Approval
As messages are written for distribution on the CHS Parents Group, it is important to keep in mind a balance of providing useful information and inundating parents with too much email. Whenever possible, combine messages into one submission instead of sending multiple emails, avoid sending large attachments and use cues in the subject line to help readers determine if a message is pertinent. It is best to communicate the main message in the body of the email rather than in an attachment. Attachments are best for forms and fliers. The distribution list is useful to notify the parent community about the beginning of a new activity but should not be used to send regular announcements of meetings which are better served with a smaller distribution list.
Note that the Google Group is not the only mechanism for communication within CHS. There is a Monthly Newsletter, daily announcements as well as distribution of flyers through the main office. Contact the Operation Assistant, Anne Neves @ email@example.com for more information on other communication methods.
I have subscribed, but I still am not getting the emails.
Some mailers have aggressive junk-mail and spam filters to avoid unwanted email. If you find that you are not receiving email messages after subscribing to the listserv, you may need to set up a filter in your mailer to allow the listserv messages to go to your inbox. A filter to accept any message with the string CHS-Parents in the subject line usually solves this. This is usually a very simple procedure but the specific instructions vary with the mailer being used. If you are unfamiliar with how to set up a filter, try searching the “Help” instructions on your mailer for “filter.” If you are unsuccessful, contact the listserv moderator for more suggestions on how to create a filter.
Any questions or concerns on the CHS Parents Google Group should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and the parent volunteer will try to assist you.
